Biography of Karen Holvey, Permanent Makeup Artist
Karen Holvey is the owner and founder of both Huntington Academy and Faces Etc., located in Huntington Beach, California. She is the Director of Education and has worked over 18 years putting together what she believes to be one of the best training programs available. We pride ourselves in keeping current and deliver the most up to date information in our industry.
Karen has over 35 years in the beauty industry as a cosmetologist and make up artist with special emphasis on color theory and design. She excelled doing platform work and teaching others the newest in coloring and design. A natural born instructor moved her to permanent cosmetics in 1989, where she began working closely with many medical professionals and cosmetic surgeons in the Orange County and Los Angeles areas. She joined the cosmetic dermatology practice at the "Fulton Skin Institute" and worked closely with Dr. James Fulton for over 8 years.
At the Institute, she began teaching other medical staff, estheticians and make up artists "The Art of Permanent Cosmetics".
She moved into her present academy location in Huntington Beach in 1994.
Karen has lectured at numerous professional trade show conferences, cosmetic and laser seminars, written articles for medical clinic newsletters, as well as Skin Inc and Cosmetech magazines. She has offered work shops at Esthetic conferences and the SPCP conferences.
Karen has authored the "Ultimate Reception Book" of before and after photos and has developed several educational DVD's. She has written manuals and color theory workbooks for other permanent make-up training centers and is the "Director of Education" for the American Institute of Education in Long Beach.
Karen is the west coast distributor for the Nouveau Contour; the highest quality digital permanent make-up machines in the U.S. Karen specializes in Para-medical procedures, working with many plastic and reconstructive surgeons. She is an expert in the field of Areola/nipple re-pigmentation after mastectomy reconstruction surgery and is also an insurance provider for a medical group in Newport Beach, California. She is the only permanent cosmetic practitioner in California that is a direct insurance provider for these services.
